What Could Be Keeping Me Fat?

See if this is something you resonate with?

Lately, you are seeing an increase in your body fat over time.  It could be a rapid increase brought on by different life changes, but mostly likely it’s the slow creep that you just didn’t notice until the seasons changed and you go to put on a pair of shorts or pants and they don’t fit anymore.  Maybe you’re scrolling through pictures and you compare older pictures with more recent ones of yourself and wonder how did you get to your current weight?

This can be a painful moment of realization.  It can bring up feelings about yourself you would rather not feel.  At this moment you may need to take a step back and really analyze what’s been going on in your life.  Ask yourself truthful questions.  Like, am I eating for health or am I eating for disease?  You know the truthful answer.  Ask yourself when was the last time you moved intentionally to get your heart rate elevated and break a sweat?

If you find that you have been covering those two bases but your weight has crept up in spite of your efforts; it may be time for you to address what could be happening on the inside with your stress level and its impact on your hormones.

Your hormones are your body’s messengers. Every single hormone sends instructions to your organs to direct how they function and determines everything from your energy levels to weight, digestion, mood, and much more. It’s not until our hormones are out of whack that we really appreciate and understand all that they do for our health.

Balance is the key to proper hormone function and if they are either too high or too low, it can have negative consequences.  There are several glands and organs in the body that secrete hormones which includes your brain, adrenals, pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid, reproductive glands, as well as your digestive tract. Your body is like a well-run machine and when one part of the machine breaks down it can have a cascade effect causing the body to be in dis-ease.

When your body resides in this chronic stress state or mindset for too long your body begins to show the wear and tear in different ways.  Chronic problems like insomnia, migraines, panic attacks, joint paint, fatigue and more, can be traced to hormonal imbalances.

So, if you suspect that you could have hormonal imbalances that may be keeping the weight on or you just want to learn more about how to combat hormone imbalance before it starts, take a look at the blog link below from Dr. Mark Hyman, MD.  He is a leading functional medicine physician and has listed many resources in his blog that may be useful for you to try and up right the cart and get yourself back on track.
